WAINFEST one of Irelands largest children’s arts festival celebrates its 12th birthday this year from the 13-25 October and what a celebration it promises to be for children, families and teachers across Donegal! Expect art exhibitions with guided activity trails, animation workshops, top class theatre, film and animation screenings, art and craft workshops, music workshops and even a chance to boogie with your baby! Bring your families along and create goblin & fairy masks especially for Halloween or get inventive and make your own musical instruments – shake, rattle and roll!

The Stone Soup (Mirrorball Theatre Company)
N.B. Family Show, Tues 14th @ 4pm

Based upon the classic European folk tale Stone Soup tells the tale of a friendly village, surrounded by fertile lands. Then one year the crops fail, hearts harden and Lus na Gréine, who sings and tells stories for the village, is given nothing. Can she melt the hearts of the villagers with a stone?
From the writer of The Witchin’ Well, Joe Brennan.

The Baby Boogie (Funky Beats for Little Feet)
Sat 18th @ The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny

     
Come along to the RCC for an afternoon disco created specially for children under 5 years old.  A night-club during the day with glitter-balls, soft toys and even a chill-out area for pre-walkers!  With guest DJs mixing a groovy blend of funk, soul, disco and pop what better way to spend the afternoon getting down with the kids?
Age: - Strictly under 5’s, ID required! Children must be accompanied by an adult
Time: 1pm, 3pm, 5pm
Duration: 1hour

Droplets (La Societa della Civetta, Italy)
Friday 24th @ The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny
N.B. Special family show at 3pm


A very special treat from Italy for younger children. Performed in English, Goccioline (Droplets) is a enchanting and beautiful show about water based on sounds and words, which unravels a journey from the Western world to Africa. Join Sara and Guglielmo in their search of enchantment and magic where every single droplet is a precious little friend to protect. This is a unique opportunity for smaller children to enjoy a piece of theatre, which has been created especially for them to respond to and enjoy! Not to be missed!

Funky Fairies and Groovy Goblins Mask-making Workshop
Saturday 25th @ The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny


Artist Taj Bell invites you to come along and experience the wonderful world of goblins and fairies through the magic of mask making!  This free family workshop is aimed children of all ages who will be given the chance to make beautiful fairy wings and goblin masks to take home and keep!
Time: 1pm – 3pm
Admission: Free

The Witches

After you have made your masks, wander down to the auditorium in the RCC for a very special screening of the fantastic film, The Witches.  Children will delight in meeting Luke, the nine year old who must foil the plans of a society of witches to turn the world’s children into mice!  An enchanting fable written by Roald Dahl, the film features Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch. Special effects by Jim Henson.
Time: 3pm
Admission: €5
N.B. This is the first screening as part of KIDS-FLIX – The RCC’s new Film Club for children aged 4+, in conjunction with Access Cinema.

Coming Up..! WINTER WORKSHOPS @ The RCC

Alien Art Attack with Lisa Gildea
If you were an Alien, where would you come from and what would you look like?  In this digital media workshop you will use computers and digital cameras to turn your portrait into an imaginary alien!  Learn new computer skills to mix and muddle pictures of your-self, objects, drawing, special effects and much more to make and print your own alien portrait!!
Dates: Saturday 1st November – 6th December

Project Yourself with Mhairi Sutherland
Visual arts workshops with a difference, creating images through photography, drawing, doodling and experimenting with size and scale. Create huge images from tiny drawings! Photograph cool stuff! Mid winter will be brightened up with projections of colour, drawings and funky faces in this wonderful workshop.

Another big date for your diary is the magical exhibition dedicated to the Oatfield Sweet Factory in Letterkenny which opens on 5th December. Information is strictly confidential at this time, but you can guarantee this is one delicious exhibition you will not want to miss…Watch this Space!
