UNKNOWN BOWN
15 Jan – 12 April 2008

Unknown Bown comprises largely unseen pictures by legendary Observer photographer Jane Bown. Jane started her career at The Observer in 1949 and the exhibition features her non-portrait images from the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s offering a unique perspective on social history. A book with an introduction by Germaine Greer will accompany the exhibition. In association with The Guardian / Observer Newspapers.

MANDSCAPE
4th - 29th March 2008

Mandscape is a made-up word, which describes the theme of the exhibition - images of landscape where mankind is present, or where man has left a trace on the landscape and includes urban images as well as rural landscapes. Curated by Martin Drury, founding Director of The Ark, the exhibition features work from their visual arts collection by ten leading contemporary artists and represents a range of different media, including prints, paintings, photographs, light boxes, and audiovisual work.  Mandscape forms part of a textured programme of events including schools workshops, family workshops and an artists~teachers seminar. Three artists (Mhairi Sutherland, Liz Smith and Laura De Burca) will lead an exploratory tour of the exhibition and then deliver hands-on workshops that respond to the exhibition and the urban or rural environment.
